"Washerboard Extravaganza" (Maple Valley, WA)

You get your name on this plaque if you throw "6 in a row" to win a game.

Bracket selection process for "Doubles" tournament.

My neighbors Mark and Brian.

Kalani cruising by the fountain.

The contest area.  Its set up on an old Pickleball court.

Brian getting his first game in.

Mark throwing while Bob watches him.

Here we go!  HIGA and Bob are teammates!

HIGA trying to score some points for the "Dream Team".

A view of the tournament from the deck.

Brian, HIGA and Bob.

Brian made it to the championship game, so they play on the special boards on the deck!

Brian ended up placing 2nd overall in the Doubles tournament.

Even Michelle competed!  You go southpaw washer thrower!

Louie, Bob and Michelle.

Louie getting some throws in.  She actually won the Consolation bracket and didn't plan to throw today!

Louie and Michelle.

I had a blast today at my first "Washerboard Extravaganza" tourney!  A big "mahalo" to Rich and Debbie who hosted the tournament and put on a huge spread of food and drinks for us.  I am still full from eating and snacking!
I was able to get 4th overall in "Doubles" with my neighbor Bob, so I was pretty stoked!  I didn't do good in "Singles" though...still had lots of fun!

Kristyn's 8.28.10 workout

Axle Clean and Press (clean each rep)
5x33
5x99
5x119
4x129
5x129 (timed for 60 seconds)
Ugh, having to clean each rep makes a HUGE difference!!!  Now, I just have to double what I did today and I will be happy!!!

Sled Drag
2x60'xsled+100
2x60'xsled+170
2x60'xsled+240
These felt pretty easy, just gotta get a bit quicker.  Combining the drag with the keg carry first is gonna be super rough, but manageable.

Stone
3x125  (to 52", no tacky)
3x148  (to 52", no tacky)
1x205  (to 48", w/tacky)
2x1x pick 250  (w/tacky)
Okay, so no, I didn't load the 250, but whatever, picking it is pretty freaking awesome anyway!!!  This is definitely a PR for me!!!  Felt pretty great, now if I can just stand up with the damn thing I will be good to go!!!

Overall I'd say I had a pretty decent workout today.  I'm really happy with my stone work, definitely will start to focus a lot more on the top half though.  Next weekend will be truck pulling time and do the keg carry and drag all together!!!  Fun times!  Can't wait!

End of Day 2 Update

Just finished day 2. Took a 5th in the squat with 340kg, but pulled my hamstring on it; 5th in the navel tug of war; 6th on the giant's egg to try and save the hamstring and then 4th on the deadlift hold. Overall finished 5th in my group, and got 9th of 16 out of the whole line up. Very very pleased!

End of Day 1 Update

Just finished the last two events of Day 1. Got a 3rd on the coach winch and I think a 4th on the conans yoke. 3 way tie for 3rd right now between Paul Carter, Dean Slater and myself.

Kristyn's 8.25.10 workout

Front Squat
5x45
5x65
5x95
5x135
2x5x155
So I did most of these sets without my knee brace, once I hit 135 though, I definitely felt like I needed it.

Deadlift/Pull-ups
3x135/3xBW
3x185/3xBW
3x225/3xBW
3x275/3xBW
3x305/3xBW
The last set of deads felt waaaaay heavier than it should have.  Hoping to bring my deads up a lot in the next few weeks!!!

Bent Over Rows (at about 60 degrees)
10x45
8x65
3x5x95

Well, John and I didn't get to the gym until late, as I had an appointment after work.  So, I didn't wanna do too much and end up being there til 9 at night...  9 is my bedtime!!!  Ha ha ha ha ha.  Big thanks to John for pushing his workout time back to make sure I went and didn't put it off :-)

"Aloha Hawaiian Grill" (Kent, WA)

Mahalos for the ono grindz braddahs!  My lau-lau plate was MEAN.

After a hard Warehouse workout today with Zack Nims today, I was ready to eat some food to help replenish my "small" body and get Bulky again.

If you are ever in the Kent, WA area come by and check them out!  Mean Loco Moco they make here!

Kristyn's 8.23.10 workout

Cleans
5x45
5x65
5x85
5x95
All sets without my knee brace...  felt great :-)

Clean and Press
5x115
Still without the knee brace...

Overhead Press
3x135
3x135
5x135
Wow, these felt ridiculously heavy today!  I'm really not sure why, but I think it's mostly because it's been a while since I've worked out consistently.  I did put the brace on for these, just wanna be careful and not push it too far with the knee.

Close Grip Bench/Captain's Chair
2x12x95/2x10

DB Flies/Captain's Chair
2x12x20/2x10
Why flies you ask?  Well, mostly because my wedding dress is low cut and I want my chest to look good!  Ha ha ha ha ha.

Overall, I feel like I had a good workout.  Not great, but just the beginning of my preparation for Nationals!

Ken Nowicki, UK's Prep Part 2

All the work is done and for the past few days I've been relaxing and indulging in some movies whilst stuffing my face! Right now I'm enjoying WSM 2005 before bed.

Here is the rest of my training for UK's 2010. I head over to Belfast, Northern Ireland on Wednesday morning and then compete Thursday. I'll be updating this blog after each of the days events.

Last day in Japan for HIGA

Departure times in English...

Now its in Kanji.

Pretty cool glass sculpture in Narita airport.

Sashimi time!  I love eating sushi at this airport!

They had huge prawns!  Look how fresh the mackerel is too!

An outstanding nigiri sushi plate.

I also had this Salmon/Tuna Don.

All of this was made of Origami.

It was pretty cool!

Me and Corey saying our goodbyes.

Corey and his wife Meg.

Corey, Meg and Higa.

This was AWESOME.  I was waiting to board my plane and I saw Rich "Ace" Franklin and Dustin Hazelett walk by me!  They spent a week overseas visiting US Troops for the UFC and were headed back home to Cincinnati, Ohio.  I was stoked to meet Mr Franklin because he is a future UFC Hall of Fame fighter.

"Yokota Strongman Challenge" (Yokota Air Base, Japan)

Contest t-shirt

Corey giving me some pressure point massage in the gym.  "Can you please rub lower Corey?"

My left side of my back was tight from the plane ride!

The new Yoke we used for the contest.  A bit rickety, but it held out.

Farmers Walk handles.  These were too short in length, but we made do.

Yoshi-san gave me a cool care package of Japanese souvenirs!  In return I gave him a "Shut up and train" shirt and some Journey training books from Animal Pak.

I dropped off three shirts to the Guamanian Club food booth for feeding me & Corey.

Akebono (former Yokozuna sumo champion)

I was very excited to meet him cause I used to watch him while living in Hawaii.  He's the first non-Japanese person to reach "Yokozuna" status in sumo.

Muto-san won this Bulky Boy shirt from me 2 years ago when he won this contest.  He told me he was going to wear it today in honor of me giving it to him.

One of the music bands playing near our contest site.

Yoshi and another competitor from Kyoto.

The staff of the Samurai Fitness Center that helped put this contest on.

Corey & I with the Base Commander of Yokota Air Base.

Reppin the Animal Pak & Universal banners.

Competitor doing the Farmers Walk.

Shukin doing the Farmers Walk.

Look at how he is carrying the one in his left hand!  He actually finished it that way!

Muto-san doing the Farmers Walk.

Corey St Clair doing a demo with the Farmers Walk.

Then, Fernando Olsen got off the microphone and tried them out too.

Fernando crossing himself over a bit.  LOL

HIGA doing a demo with the Log.

HIGA

HIGA still doing the Log.

The awesome trophies for the competitors.

Tire Flip

More tire flipping.

Repping the Bulky Boy gear!

Airman Chris flipping a tire.

Muto-san flipping a tire with Bulky Boy shirt!

Shukin doing the Yoke Walk.

Competitor doing the Trap bar deadlift.

Looks like its heavy for this guy!

Time to load up people for the Bus Pull!

Yoshi successfully defended his title, but it was close!  He and Chris were tied in points but Yoshi won due to the most 1st placings in the entire contest.

Congrats to all 10 competitors!

I was very proud of Shukin!  Good job brah!

Chris got 2nd place and Yoshi was the winner.

I gave these guys some "Shut up & train" shirts too.

Ice cold beer after the long HOT day.

What a "crappy" job...

Funny sign outside of Chili's.

"Brah, I am hot, tired, dehydrated and wasted from today."

We found out that the owner of the "Japanese Car of speaker madness" worked at Chili's!

Man, it sucked cause we had to extend our pass to the base every damn night.  The pass would be good for only 24 hours, and it was worse tonight cause we were so tired from the contest and had to go back to extend the pass before midnight.  As you can see, Corey & I are very happy...

It was a HOT day of competition today.  The temperature was 91 degrees, but with the humidity that heat index was 99 degrees Farenheit.
Congratulations to all 10 competitors that participated!  See you next year!
