475 lbs for 3 reps Squat workout in Hawai'i (11/28/09)

Still trying to keep on track with my training for the Raw Squat contest on Jan, 9, 2010.
My friend hooked me up with a day pass at 24 Hour Fitness in Kaneohe cause he is the GM there. Wanted to go heavier, but I had no power belt. I'm going to have to just make up for it next week.
Aloha from Hawai'i!

Hawai'i vs Navy football game (11/28/09)

Me and a Manoa Maniac that looks like he is ready to "GET NUTS!"

The view from our seats.

There was a halftime ceremony honoring Hawai'i military.

Fans still bring their Ti Leaves into the game. They have been doing that since I was a kid.

My Aunty gave us 2 tickets to the game tonight. I haven't been to a UH football game in years, and it was my wife's first UH game too.

Really cool to see all the "Manoa Maniacs" cheering on the Warriors. It was also Military Night, and there was a flyover with two Naval jets during the National Anthem.
There are over 300,000 military servicemen/women that live on O'ahu alone. Thats alot of people, and it was a really big game because Navy was in town and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is right across Aloha Stadium.

Of course I got to relive all my childhood memories by eating fried noodles, malasadas, and boiled peanuts at the game! Only in Hawai'i can you buy concessions like that!

The Warriors won too, beating the Midshipmen 24-17. Talk to you later!

Breakfast at Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen (Kailua, HI)

Hawaiian Fried Rice (left), side order Podahgee sausage (center) and the famous Macadamia Nut Pancakes w/macadamia nut sauce ontop (right). That pancake is their specialty!

Me getting ready to grind some ono food!

All the years that I lived in Hawai'i, I have NEVER eaten at Boots & Kimo's. Until today!
Found out that it was only 1/2 mile away from the beach house we are renting in Kailua.
"Ho brah, mean grindz!"

Raw squat video

Since there is no strongman contests till Spring, I am going to compete in a Powerlifting contest up in Lynwood, WA on Jan 9, 2010.

I haven't competed in a Powerlifting contest since 2000, so it will be fun to get a decent single lift Squat in this event. The term "raw" means i wont use a power suit or knee wraps. Just a belt.

I'm going to post my weekly max squats on the Blog. Looking to do at least 600 lbs at this contest.

Stay strong & BULKY!

I thought this was a cool picture. My sister in law snapped this while Corey was getting some reps on the Axle!

This was the women's Pushups for reps contest. The winner got a gift certificate for a meal at "Local Boyz Hawaiian Cafe".

Post game grindz at "Local Boyz Hawaiian Cafe" in Corvallis. I'm about to grind this BLALAH plate of kalbi ribs after a long day!

We were lucky, and it was a beautiful Fall day in the Pacific Northwest! I was worried, because it had been pouring rain the entire week before our demonstration.
Despite the early kickoff of the football game, we were determined to make the best of our situation and put on a good show for the students & Dads of Oregon State
We gave out 1,500 shirts that had a cool "Dad's Weekend" theme to it, and Bulky Boy also donated some shirts and stickers for me to giveaway.

Me and fellow pro strongman Corey St. Clair, completed 3 tests of strength:
Log press for maximum weight. ( I won with a lift of 320 lbs)
Axle deadlift for reps (Corey won with 16 reps, and I got 15 reps)
River Rock loading (222 lbs-302 lbs)

I also had 2 special contests for the audience. The "Rolling Thunder" grip challenge, and a "Push ups for most reps" challenge.

In the Rolling Thunder challenge, student Chris Roth won himself a $50 gift certificate to the Bulky Boy online store.
Chris is an intern at the Strength & Conditioning department of Oregon State!
In the Push ups for reps, Chris Roth again competed in it. I thought he was going to walk away with another $50 gift certificate, but another student beat him with 69 full pushups, while Chris got only 61 pushups.

That student was so happy to win, and he said that "he is looking forward to buying some sweet shirts" with that prize!

After the demonstration, Corey and I went to watch the football game with my family. To top the day off, the Beavers were able to DEFEAT the Washington Huskies 48-21.

Mahalo to Bulky Boy for supporting me yesterday!
My daughter & niece were working hard to hand out Bulky Boy stickers & business cards to everyone that was passing by.

We hope that some "Beaver Believers" will be making some purchases and help spread the word on your awesome products!

GO BEAVS!
