Here's the latest edition of my training. Tried some squat with chains today which I really enjoyed and can see them being a real help to my raw squat.
Top set was 250kg plus 30kg of chains for a weight at the top of 280k, and at the bottom maybe 260ish.
Followed that up with some 18" deadlift, went upto a new PB of 340kg for 3 reps.

HUGE turnout for today's "Seattle Animal Barbbell Club"! A big "mahalo" to my friend, Todd Christensen who owns Seattle Strength & Power. We all had a great workout today and everyone lifted heavy.
If you ever want to get an awesome, hardcore Powerlifting workout, go and check out Seattle Strength & Power. You will feel like a BULKY BOY after a workout there!!
42 days until we lift in the "Pros vs Bros 500 lb deadlift for reps" contest. I hope these Bros bring it, cause I'm tired of hearing them say, "we need to use straps" when we Deadlift.
After a good month off of training after Nationals, it was time to get into some heavy work! Did axle triples up to 330lbs and then did 350 for a single. Hopefully I'll be hitting 400 real soon! Also, we did some husafeldt stone holds and yoke holds. Stone is 400lbs and yoke is 610lbs. More to come soon!
Here's a wee video from yesterday, trying to get into attacking my rep events more, but setting a good pace so I don't burn out.
Set myself a goal of 3reps in 30s on a 140kg axle, hoping to get about 5reps with the 147k at the Arnold, another 6weeks and I should do that with some luck!
Also, got an invite to the British Log Lift Championships in July today, going to aim to break the Scottish record of 165kg.
Well, after an unforeseen week off, I had to hit it pretty hard today. Though I haven't been lifting much, I have been doing some cardio. Trying to be strong and healthy... it's a little bit tough, I won't lie... but I was pretty pleased with today's session. Hope it's a good indication of things to come!
Box Squats/Deads (super-setted)
3x45/5x45
3x135/5x135
3x185/5x185
3x225/5x225
3x275/5x275
3x275/3x305
2x275/2x305
1x275/1x315 Oh yes, this hurt so good!
Step-ups (each leg)
8x45
8x65
8x85 I'm still a really big fan of single leg assistance work since I had to rehab my knee. I think it's made a huge difference in my strength, even if it is seemingly piddly stuff.
Treadmill
15 mins Shockingly enough, I actually managed to run today at 6.0, rather than just walk. Weird how some days after squatting I couldn't run even if I really wanted to... oh well... whatever, just gotta do what I can do.
The gauntlet has been set! HIGA MONSTER, Ben Rice and Ben Seath will be competing in the "Prosvs Bros" contest in THE CAGE against 3 bros from the Animal Pak website.
500 lb Deadlift for reps(total reps wins).
I hope the "bros" are training hard because all 3 of us "pros" here in Washington are GOING TO BRINGIT!
Mahalo to "Big Gym" of Hood River, Oregon for letting me get a workout there yesterday. Mathias Graebel is a cool dude who always lets me get some killer workouts there whenever I am in town. Appreciate it bro!
Had another go at the 400# overhead yesterday, hit 175kg before it for a 5kg PB, but missed the illusive 400#.
Going to start training axle for triples as my secondary movement for about three weeks from next Tuesday to get me used to the axle again for Arnold's. Looking forward to the show, going to be a great trip!!
Zack did this today in my garage. He only weighs 220 lbs and is slamming this weight above his head. I am looking forward to seeing him compete at "The Arnold Amateur World Strongman Championship". At that contest, he has to press 325 lbs overhead! Lots of time to train and get BULKY.
Treadmill
17 mins I tried to run today... I really did, but my legs just wouldn't do it. Too much lactic acid built up already or something. Just wasn't happening, so I had to walk fast at an incline... oh well.
